Splendido e Solare… Orgoglio e Vanto de le nostre assolate
Campagne…
“Gimo a Carosa’ ‘l Poggio…”
Casa… l’ intero Poggio aveva cambiato completamente aspetto…

A NOTE: BY EZIO MORELLI
Quite often, Groups of Young People from one Hill to the other, would gladly free themselves from the
Adults’ Authority… and assume on their own the Initiative. And so, they intervene on their own with
Songs that are real Chants and Invitations to Life, and also to Feminine Fecondity…
This is exactly the case herein with “THE SONG OF THE ROSE…” which within the Adult People
was also known as “THE YOUTH SONG…”
A very Beautiful Song… an Outspring of the Joy of Life… and a Real Pride to our Country Life…
“Let’s go and Shave the Hill…”
This was the Roster Order of the Day… when Groups of Harvesters up to Twenty or even Thirty
Persons… at Dawn would fiercely leave their homes to go and “Carosa’ ‘l Poggio…” that is to Shave
the Hill…
Just as if it were a Sheep!...
The only difference was that here, instead of a Sheep, it was a whole Hill to be Shaved!
And you could well be reassured that at Dusk, when the tired Harvesters would return to their Homes…
the whole Hill had changed aspect…
All neatly Shaved by now… with the BARCHETTE (the Grain Heaps) already in their place… and
quite similar t…o a whole Fleet at Sea…
Will you please also note… that in these Harvesters’ Songs… there were, at times, frequent Variations
in the Wording…made by individual Singers that would so Personalize the Wording. This is also the
present case… with Personal Variations… by means of keen, Personal re-elaborations in the
wording…
…That would quite often lead… to a real and yet unexpected… COMIC CRESCENDO!...
